This Ondulate Cosmati pavement is beautifully crafted by hand, by artisans who have handed down this craft from father to son. The Cosmati pavement section is composed of Polychrome Marbles, hand-cut, hand-assembled and sensitively aged. Use as a seamless pavement, as a repeating tile, as an enlarged version to make a central tableau, change materials and colours, play with different textures… It is all possible at De Ferranti, as we pride ourselves on our ability to be fully customisable. We are also able to use historic marbles, often extinct, if required, as we have sources of old fragments and blocks.

Ondulate Cosmati Pavement in Detail

Ondulate Cosmati develops the Cosmati tradition through a patterned field of coloured stone and mosaic. The design depends on controlled contrast, repeated geometry and the natural differences between individual materials. Scale can change how the surface reads: close up it is intricate and mineral-rich, while across a room the larger rhythm becomes more apparent.

Within the same collection, Quattro Angoli Cosmati Tile and Nodo Cosmati Tile offer useful comparisons in scale, colour and repeat. The wider Cosmati – Sacred Geometry in Coloured Stone & Smalti is also relevant when a project needs to coordinate this surface with other patterned pavements rather than treat it as an isolated decorative insert.

Planning the Surface

The recorded applications include flooring, wall applications, bathrooms, fireplace surrounds and churches. For the Ondulate Cosmati pavement, confirm the final scale, colour balance and orientation from samples or shop drawings before installation. Where the composition includes rare marbles, glass, semi-precious material or a deliberately aged finish, natural and hand-worked variation should be treated as part of the approved character rather than as a defect.
