This lapis lazuli sandstone trough is a monumental vessel carved from warm yellow sandstone, its interior brought to life through deep blue hand-inlaid lapis lazuli. The piece sits between sculptural artefact and usable form. Its honey and ochre sandstone carries natural mineral movement and subtle variation, while the restrained outer profile uses softly moulded edges and grounded proportions. Inside, a flowing arabesque of lapis lazuli forms scrolling vines and stylised floral motifs in ultramarine and cobalt. Flecks of pyrite within the lapis catch the light, intensifying the contrast between golden sandstone and blue mineral. The different surface characters are equally important: matte, porous-looking sandstone surrounds the denser polished inlay.
