The Ark is a handcrafted teak bath lined with brass, fit for Cleopatra. Its construction combines a solid carved teak carcass, hand-beaten brass lining, bitumen lining and an exterior water-line in red agate. It forms part of De Ferranti’s Objects of Desire Collection.
The Ark treats the bath as a functional object with the presence of sculpture. Its rounded, vessel-like profile allows the grain and warm colour of the carved teak to remain visible, while the reflective brass interior introduces a contrasting metallic surface. A narrow band of red agate marks the exterior water-line, bringing a semi-precious mineral detail into the transition between timber and metal.
The hand-beaten brass is especially important visually. Rather than reading as a perfectly uniform sheet, its worked surface catches light across small variations in texture. This teak bath lined with brass sits naturally within De Ferranti’s Objects of Desire & Curiosities, where rare materials and specialist craft are applied to functional objects. Designers developing a coordinated bathroom can also review the Basins collection, while the Rock Crystal collection explores semi-precious materials in bathroom and decorative objects.
A brass-lined teak bath should be considered early in the design process. Access, floor loading, plumbing positions, waste connections and the relationship with surrounding stone, timber or metal finishes require project-specific review. The visible junctions between teak, brass and red agate also make adjacent material selection important.
Project drawings and finish references should be reviewed alongside the wider bathroom palette so that the bath is integrated deliberately rather than treated as a conventional sanitary fitting.
