This crescent terracotta tile is hand-painted in caramello and charcoal on an off-white ground, using opposing curved forms to create a confident repeat with warmth, contrast and graphic balance.

The motifs meet at the tile edges, so a gridded installation develops into flowing circles, crescents and figure-eight silhouettes. The geometry is simple and recognisable, yet its alternating positive and negative spaces keep larger installations active.

Caramello introduces a sun-warmed earthen tone, charcoal adds depth and structure, and the off-white field keeps the composition light. Hand painting gives each curve subtle tonal movement and a softened edge, allowing the pattern to feel crafted rather than mechanical.

Scala is suited to feature walls, splashbacks, bathrooms, entrance halls, stair halls and statement floor areas where strong pattern is required without intricate detail. Variation in brushwork, tone and edge character is intrinsic to the finish.

Specifying the Crescent Terracotta Tile

The Pal 19 Paprika and charcoal on an off-white ground develops a tighter warm-coloured interlock, while Tour 2 Mezzanotte and oxford tones on an off-white ground uses stacked blue arches. Two related metallic interpretations are the Scala di Rhombi – Gray Charcoal Silver and Scala Rhombi – Variation on Silver, both of which exchange painted curves for faceted geometry and reflected light.

Balancing Curves and Grout Lines

Set out complete pairs or four-tile groups before fixing so circles and figure-eight forms remain balanced around the main sightline. A grout close to the off-white ground will reduce the square grid. Confirm substrate, joint width, slip performance and warm-climate exterior suitability, and review several tiles for tonal variation.
