This blue arch terracotta tile is hand-painted in mezzanotte and Oxford tones on an off-white ground, creating a bold repeated motif with a strong graphic cadence and a softly worked surface.

Repeated arch and horseshoe forms are stacked in alternating directions across the field. Deep mezzanotte blue gives the pattern weight, while the quieter Oxford tone creates a layered, textile-like effect and prevents the composition from becoming stark.

Hand painting softens the motif edges and introduces slight tonal variation within each stroke. Across a larger installation, the repeated U-shaped forms read as ordered and decorative, with enough negative space to retain clarity.

Aligning the Stacked Arches

Establish a full vertical and horizontal repeat before fixing because the U-shaped motifs make misalignment conspicuous. Centre the strongest stacked sequence on the principal viewpoint and use an off-white grout to preserve the pale channels. Confirm substrate, joint width, slip performance and warm-climate exterior suitability, and approve the blue range from samples.
