Onice Grigio Cross Cut is a rare luxury grey onyx admired for its translucent layers of soft grey, ivory, cream, beige and occasional honey-gold movement. The cross-cut method reveals a more clouded and atmospheric pattern than vein-cut onyx, creating pooled mineral forms, floating bands and subtle tonal depth across the surface.
Often associated with Turkish grey onyx selections, Onice Grigio has the refined neutrality of grey marble but with the additional luminosity and depth of calcite onyx.
While this particular selection is best understood as a contemporary luxury onyx rather than a single ancient quarry marble, it belongs to the wider family of translucent onyx and alabaster stones prized since Egyptian, Greek and Roman antiquity for vessels, carved objects, sacred interiors and decorative architectural detail.
Its quiet colour and natural translucency make it especially suited to luxury interiors, backlit panels, bathrooms, vanity tops, bar fronts, wall features, furniture and statement slabs where rare onyx, soft light and architectural calm are central to the design.
The circular and pooled formations of Onice Grigio Cross Cut contrast directly with the linear bands of Onice Grigio Vein Cut. Nero Eclipse Onyx provides a darker comparison, while De Ferranti’s Alabaster Art collection extends the study of translucent stone.
Review the selected slab for the size and position of concentric grey, cream and beige mineral pools. These forms can become focal points in panels or furniture. For backlit work, test the actual slab because the denser grey centres may transmit less light than pale surrounding areas.
