Carved Jali Wood Screen – Geometric Lattice Panel

This carved wood jali screen features an interlocking geometric lattice designed to filter light, soften sightlines and introduce patterned shadow. The panel is carved from solid wood into repeating stars and interlocking polygons. Its disciplined geometry is balanced by the depth of the carving, which creates changing shadow across the surface. Used as a screen, it can provide privacy without visual heaviness and has been proposed for room dividers, wardrobe fronts, radiator covers, cabinet doors, stair balustrade infills and wall features. It can also be backlit.

Craft and Pattern in a Carved Wood Jali Screen

This De Ferranti product consists of a square, warm brown timber panel framed by a broad solid border. Within it, eight-pointed star forms, crosses and angular links interlock across the field. A close detail reveals visible grain and small tonal shifts in the wood, giving the strict geometry a softer material character. As a natural material, each screen carries variation in grain and tone. Size, timber species, finish and edge framing can be specified to suit the project.

For contrasting material interpretations, compare the Beige Sandstone Pierced Screen Jali and the Cast Solid Brass Pierced Screen. The wider Jali Screens in Marble Stone Metal & Wood collection shows how similar screening principles can be translated across different materials, while the Moorish architecture glossary provides context for related lattice and geometric traditions.

Framing, Joinery and Light

The panel should be specified as part of the surrounding joinery rather than in isolation. Frame depth, edge treatment, fixing points and the degree of openness all affect how the screen performs visually. Backlighting can emphasise the geometry, while side lighting brings out carved depth and grain. The live product data lists both interior use and warm-climate exterior use, but timber species, finish and exposure conditions should be confirmed before any exterior installation.
