The Tindaro sponged terracotta tile combines a black and white chequerboard with blue pencil lines and green decoration. Produced in a Southern Italian artisan studio, the design is described as Neapolitan in origin, 19th century in character and inspired by Oriental pattern. Its mixture of firm geometry and softened sponged colour gives the repeat both discipline and visible handmade movement.

Black and off-white establish the main structure, while the blue line and green motifs introduce colour without overwhelming the chequerboard. The sponged technique creates uneven density and slightly diffused edges, contrasting with the underlying grid. Across a larger installation, these differences prevent the surface from appearing mechanically printed and allow each tile to retain its own character.

Tindaro may be considered for interior floors and walls, kitchens, bathrooms, residential schemes and restaurant interiors, with exterior use in warm climates subject to project specification. Samples should be viewed together to assess variation in the black, blue and green pigments. A dry layout will help maintain the chequerboard while balancing the softer sponged passages across the area. Grout colour and joint width should reinforce the geometry without competing with the blue pencil line.
