The Appoggi red terracotta tile is painted by hand in a Southern Italian artisan studio, with a leaning, poly-directional motif in red over an off-white ground. Rotating the module changes the relationship between its angled lines, allowing a range of repeat structures from a single design. The tile body and background are delicately aged, and De Ferranti identifies the pattern as Sicilian in origin and 19th century in character.

Warm Geometry in the Appoggi Red Terracotta Tile

The red pigment gives the sparse geometric drawing warmth and immediacy without turning the surface into a densely coloured panel. Its off-white field leaves generous visual space around the motif, while handmade variation softens the geometry. Slight differences in brush pressure, tone and alignment are part of the tile’s crafted identity and become more apparent across a broad installation.

Within the range, Appoggi Black and White creates a sharper monochrome counterpart, while Appoggi Saffron and White offers a sunlit orange-yellow alternative. Neisha Crosland’s Pollen in Orange and Red provides another warm geometric terracotta surface, and Can-Can in Clementine introduces a more openly botanical pattern in a related colour register.

Floors, Walls and Rotated Repeats

The Appoggi module is useful for entrance areas, kitchens, bathrooms, stair risers, fireplace surrounds and restaurant interiors where pattern needs energy but not excessive detail. It may also be considered for warm-climate exterior applications, subject to specification and installation method. The intended rotation should be documented before laying, particularly across thresholds or adjoining surfaces.
