Delft Tile – White – Yellow

The warm white Delft tile is a quiet and refined interpretation of traditional glazing, carrying the soft warmth of aged tin glaze. At first glance it reads as ivory, yet beneath the surface sits a gentle buttery undertone – reminiscent of antique Delft tiles that have mellowed over centuries in canal houses and manor interiors. The glaze is smooth yet subtly irregular, revealing faint tonal movement across the face. Tiny specks and minute surface nuances speak of hand-crafted production rather than industrial uniformity. The corners are slightly softened, honouring the traditional 13 x 13 cm Delft format. Unlike classic cobalt-decorated tiles, the warm white Delft tile stands confidently alone. It works as a grounding field tile behind figurative panels, as a backdrop to blue or sepia decoration, or as a warm neutral surface in its own right.

Colour: Soft ivory with warm yellow undertones – neither stark white nor overtly cream.

Finish: Traditional tin glaze with gentle luminosity.

Format: Traditionally 13 x 13 cm.

Warm White Delft Tile for Neutral Schemes

The defining quality of this field tile is its undertone. The faint yellow cast gives the white a warmer appearance while allowing the surface to remain pale and restrained. Subtle changes in tone, small specks and softened corners prevent a larger installation from appearing mechanically uniform.

Used across a complete wall, the tile can create a quiet background with gentle surface movement. It can also provide visual separation around figurative tiles, decorative panels or stronger ceramic patterns without introducing another motif.

Related Delft Whites and Warm Ceramics

Within the same category, Delft Tile – White – Blue offers a cooler chalk-white ground with a faint blue undertone. Delft Whites – Nuanced Grounds brings several related whites together, ranging from cool blue-white and soft grey to pale ivory and warm butter cream.

Elsewhere in De Ferranti’s ceramic collections, Pennello Cream Brushed Terracotta Tile explores a warm cream tone through irregular painted brushstrokes and textured terracotta. Byzantino 2 – Off-White combines creamy off-white ceramic fields with bronze details in a structured geometric repeat.

Specification and Surface Planning

When specifying the warm white Delft tile, the traditional 13 x 13 cm format should be confirmed for the current supply. Samples should be assessed together and under the intended lighting so that variations in tone, glaze and surface detail can be understood before installation.

The intended substrate, grout colour, installation products, cleaning requirements and suitability for the proposed application should be confirmed before ordering.
