The Cosmati pavement section is composed of Giallo Antico from Numidia, antique green porphyry (serpentine), antique red Egyptian porphyry palombino from Asia Minor. The design is associated with 12th-century Cosmati work and is inspired by flooring at Villa Adriana, Tivoli, Rome. Cosmati work is highly decorative, with inlays of coloured stones, mosaic, glass and gold leaf.
