Neisha Crosland
Pollen – Orange/Blue

Orange blue patterned tiles bring colour, rhythm and a strong sense of movement into a surface scheme. Pollen – Orange/Blue began with a velvet devore scarf designed by Neisha Crosland, later translated into the Haveli collection as a handpainted ceramic repeat. Jagged triangular forms, angular marks, spokes and clustered dots create a lively composition, while the orange and blue palette gives the surface warmth, contrast and depth.

Orange Blue Patterned Tiles with Graphic Energy

A design that started life on a velvet devore scarf that Neisha designed.

The arrangement of jagged edges triangles, angular motifs and spokes  and dots have always interested Neisha and it is a theme she still plays with. The cluster of dots reminded her of a cluster of pollen thus the name of this design.

“I always think that putting shapes into repeat is a bit like arranging notes in music  only  it  produces  a  visual rhythm and tune rather than audible one. I hope this collection demonstrates this, she says of her work.

The design takes its name from the clustered dots within the repeat, and gives the tile a useful balance between natural reference and geometric discipline. These orange blue patterned tiles can work as a confident wall surface, a kitchen splashback, a bathroom feature, a fireplace surround or a carefully specified floor where colour and pattern are intended to carry the scheme.

Handpainted Pattern and Surface Character

As part of Neisha Crosland – HAVELI, Pollen – Orange/Blue belongs to a family of handpainted glazed terracotta tiles with distressed matte surfaces, earthy colourways and small geometric designs. The handpainted finish is central to its character: the repeat has structure, but the surface remains tactile, varied and visibly crafted rather than flat or printed. Used at scale, the pattern can create an animated field of colour. Used in smaller areas, it can frame a basin, cooker, niche, bar front or fireplace with concentrated detail.

For the wider creative context, explore Ceramics by Neisha Crosland. This design also appears within the Neisha Crosland Haveli Collection Exterior Garden Wall and Tile-Clad Seating project, showing how the Haveli language can be used as part of a more complete decorative surface scheme. Orange blue patterned tiles of this kind are especially useful where a project needs colour, craft and repeat pattern to work together rather than separately.
