Neisha Crosland – BOTANICA

Handmade and hand painted by De Ferranti's exclusive artisans in Sicily, Neisha Crosland Botanica tiles form a collection of 5 terracotta designs in 2 to 4 colourways each.

Simple and floral organic drawings are stencil printed shapes, hand coloured with a brushwork, watercolour effect onto an earthy, dry biscuit base. Varying degrees of matt to glossy glazed colours on the dry finish, along with the very subtle eggshell crackle texture on the tile itself, give the tiles patina and warmth.

Inspired by Emile Nolde's vivid watercolours of flowers, Can-Can dancing, Persian illuminated manuscripts and the walls in Ottoman harems and Roman villas.

Neisha Crosland Botanica Tiles and Botanical Pattern

Within Ceramics by Neisha Crosland, Botanica is the most overtly botanical collection, translating flowers, leaves and water-garden forms into ordered repeat. Can-Can, Florissa, Gardenia, Lily Pond and Tulip move between compact motifs and broader compositions, with selected designs intended to work as paired tiles or as positive and negative variations. The result is decorative pattern that can read gently at close range while becoming more continuous across a larger tiled field.

The Neisha Crosland collaboration places pattern, proportion and material at the centre of the surface, while Studio Le Nid provides useful context for the Sicilian ceramic workmanship behind the collections. For a more intricate floral and tendril-led vocabulary, the related Floris collection offers a complementary route through hand painted terracotta.

Planning Botanical Terracotta Surfaces

Neisha Crosland Botanica tiles should be reviewed as a repeat rather than as isolated samples. Consider how paired motifs meet, where a pattern begins and ends, and how the field relates to corners, cabinetry, sanitary fittings and thresholds. Samples are particularly useful for judging the earthy biscuit base, crackle texture, glaze variation and the balance between matt and glossier passages under project lighting.

For larger schemes, establish the principal sightline before finalising set-out. In smaller rooms or framed panels, choose the motif scale carefully so that enough of the repeat remains visible to communicate the design.
