Midnight Delft ceramic brick is a vibrant cobalt blue handmade glazed ceramic tile inspired by historic Delft ceramics, traditional blue pigments and the enduring beauty of European decorative tilework. Rich, confident and full of character, it offers a classic blue with a distinctly handcrafted surface.
Part of The Blues Bricks Collection, Midnight Delft ceramic brick has been developed through the collaboration between De Ferranti and AAA – Alvaro Afonso Atelier. The collection brings together the expressive qualities of handmade glazing with the architectural rhythm of an elongated brick tile format.
The glaze moves subtly across the elongated brick form, revealing tonal shifts, crazing, kiln marks and handmade irregularities that create depth and texture. This gives the finished wall a sense of movement, even when installed as a single-colour field. The colour has a strong ceramic identity, recalling hand-painted tile traditions while remaining fresh enough for contemporary interiors.
Midnight Delft ceramic brick works beautifully with natural stone, timber, lime plaster, aged brass and other handcrafted materials. Used alone, it creates a lively architectural surface with clarity and strength. Used within a wider blue scheme, it sits between the softness of Mistwashed Sky MK703 and the deeper drama of Imperial Navy MK709.
Midnight Delft ceramic brick is ideal for Kitchens, Splashbacks, Bathrooms, Shower Walls, Restaurants, Boutique Hotels, Pool Rooms and Feature Walls. Its appeal lies in its balance between heritage and energy – a handmade glazed ceramic tile that feels decorative, architectural and enduring.
The elongated proportion gives the glaze a measured linearity that can be emphasised through horizontal, vertical or offset layouts. Grout colour and joint width will influence whether the installation reads as a continuous blue field or a more clearly articulated pattern. Physical samples should be assessed with adjoining materials and under the intended project lighting before the final specification is confirmed.
Additional tones within The Blues Bricks family include Mistwashed Sky, Skywash Blue, Azure Tide and Imperial Navy.
The Midnight Delft ceramic brick can be paired with the related blue brick tones above to create tonal variation, subtle contrast and a more individually composed surface while retaining the rhythm of the elongated format.
