Fiore Byzantino Gold & Blue

This gold and blue floral mosaic, Fiore Byzantino Gold & Blue, uses shimmering flower petals artistically selected and placed into a harmonious repeating ensemble. Mosaics were more central to Byzantine culture than to that of Western Europe. Byzantine church interiors were generally covered with golden mosaics. Mosaic art flourished in the Byzantine Empire from the 6th to the 15th centuries. Of note, glass was used in mosaics as early as 2500 BC, but it took until the 3rd century BC before innovative artisans in Greece, Persia and India created glass mosaic tiles. De Ferranti, in keeping with the Byzantine tradition, offers mosaics in Gold, White Gold and other precious metals.

Pattern and Light in the Gold and Blue Floral Mosaic

The photographed composition sets elongated cobalt-blue and muted blue-green petals against a warm gold tessellated ground. Small red, mauve and blue accents punctuate the field, while the interlocking petal geometry creates a continuous rhythm rather than isolated floral medallions. The result gives the gold and blue floral mosaic movement close up and a unified pattern at distance.

Within the collection, Gold Fan Mosaic A replaces the floral geometry with overlapping scallops, while Santissimo Gold & Blue develops gold and blue as a figurative panel. For material comparisons, Glass Mosaic broadens the palette of glass tesserae, and 24k Yellow Gold Mosaic offers a more concentrated gold surface.

Planning the Floral Repeat

Before installation, review several modules together so that the petal intersections, perimeter cuts and any transition into plain surfaces are resolved deliberately. A grout sample should be assessed against both the blue leaves and gold field because joint colour can either sharpen or soften the repeat. Directional light will emphasise individual reflective tesserae, while diffuse light gives a calmer reading. Confirm substrate preparation, setting-out, movement joints and any wet-area requirements for the actual project.
