This volcanic stone border creates a luxurious wide frame around your floor to lift and personalise it to your taste. This unique border is fashioned from Pietra Volcanica and Yellow Leathery Terracotta over a cement base ensuring that the border is not only stable and sound, but also easy to install. Totally handcut, hand assembled, a truly handmade product. No border is the same as the artist’s hand is vital in creating natural nuances within each interlocking piece. Thicknesses can be 1cm or 2cm or to order as can the border widths and material combinations. All the De Ferranti borders are fully customisable.
Imperio Volcanicus & Cotto Border has a warm, classical character, with scrolling yellow terracotta forms set across a softly speckled volcanic stone field. The pattern feels decorative and generous, with long flowing curves, smaller spiral details and a framed outer edge that gives the border structure. The contrast is tonal rather than sharp, making the design rich, earthy and quietly ornate.
This volcanic stone border is suited to projects where a floor or wall detail needs warmth, movement and a handcut decorative language. It can be used to frame a stone floor, define a threshold, create a perimeter band, outline a fireplace surround or introduce a classical scroll motif into a larger interior composition, subject to the final specification and installation method.
Within the De Ferranti borders collection, Imperio Volcanicus & Cotto Border sits naturally alongside stone, terracotta and mosaic border work. Designers considering related Roman and terracotta-led surfaces may also wish to explore Cocciopesto – Ancient Roman Lime & Crushed-Terracotta Plaster, Terracotta Floors & Walls and Opus Sectile – Roman-Inspired Stone Marquetry for Walls & Floors.
