Alabastro Multicolore is a rare luxury translucent alabaster onyx admired for its layered movement of cream, ivory, honey, amber , brown and warmer multicoloured mineral tones. Its name simply means “multicolour alabaster ”, a fitting description for a stone whose shifting bands and clouded veining give it a luminous, painterly quality when polished or backlit. While Alabastro Multicolore is best understood as a contemporary decorative selection rather than a single fixed ancient quarry marble , it belongs to the wider family of alabaster , onyx- marble and calcite alabaster stones prized since antiquity for carved vessels, sacred objects, sculpture and architectural ornament. Archaeological and stone-trade usage often includes both gypsum alabaster and banded calcite alabaster under the name alabaster , while calcite alabaster is also historically known as onyx- marble or Egyptian alabaster .
