Sarrancolin is a rare historic French
from the Hautes-Pyrénées, quarried around Sarrancolin, Ilhet and Beyrède in one of France’s most celebrated ornamental stone regions. Admired for its richly brecciated movement, with pink, red, grey, cream, ivory and soft golden tones, Sarrancolin became one of the great decorative marbles of French royal architecture. Its finest varieties, including Sarrancolin Ilhet, Sarrancolin Fantastico and Sarrancolin Versailles, were especially prized during the reigns of Louis XIV and Louis XV, when richly coloured French marbles were used to express royal power, classical taste and architectural grandeur. Sarrancolin marbles appear in important historic interiors including the Palace of Versailles, where examples are recorded in fireplaces, state rooms and architectural decoration, as well as in the
and other prestigious French buildings.
With its royal French provenance, painterly colour and strong architectural character, Sarrancolin is especially suited to luxury interiors, statement panels, bathrooms, bar tops, fireplace surrounds, furniture, decorative slabs and projects where rare marbles, historic provenance and expressive natural movement are essential.
