Neisha Crosland
Young Pen – Deep Weave Mosaic with Brown Grout
This Young Pen weave presents a richer, more saturated interpretation of the tortoiseshell aesthetic, with densely layered rectangles forming a tightly interlocked pattern. The palette moves through burnt sienna, dark , espresso brown and near-black undertones, producing a surface that feels both architectural and jewel-like.

Each rectangular slice reveals natural shell striations and subtle translucency, with light catching the polished surface to create depth beneath the grid. The brown grout enhances the woven structure, grounding the composition while allowing the glossy shell pieces to shimmer with tonal variation.

Crafted from recycled shell by-product, this design offers a refined and ethical alternative to traditional tortoiseshell finishes. No two panels are identical, as veining, colour density and organic markings vary from piece to piece.

Construction
Shells sliced into rectangular pieces, hand-inlaid onto a stable substrate using adhesive and ground to a glossy finish.
