Violet Oyster – rough square
A deeply tonal and quietly dramatic composition, Violet Oyster – Rough Square reveals the moody elegance of natural shell in its most authentic state. Each square is cut from raw oyster shell, retaining its natural inclusions, growth rings and subtle iridescent flashes. The surface shifts between charcoal, smoky violet, graphite, pewter and soft ash-grey, punctuated by organic ivory markings and fossil-like traces that appear almost suspended within the shell. The interplay of matt and soft sheen creates movement across the grid, catching light differently from every angle.

Inspired by the cracked geometry of dried earth, the layout forms a disciplined of irregular squares – structured yet organic. Slight variations in thickness and tone give the surface depth and a gentle undulation, far removed from a flat, mechanical finish.

The shells are sliced into squares, hand inlaid onto a substrate using adhesive, and protected with a polyurethane top coat to preserve the surface while maintaining its natural character.

No two panels are ever identical – each carries the nuances of the shell’s origin and the artisan’s hand.
