The parrot is depicted in layered washes of olive, moss and deep forest green, punctuated by flashes of warm and golden yellow across the breast. Hints of cobalt blue trace the head and wing contours, while delicate black linework defines feathers, eye and claw with expressive clarity. The surrounding foliage - soft sage and muted green - floats against a creamy white tin-glazed ground, allowing the pigments to bloom gently and create subtle tonal halos.
As with all pieces in the Bestiário series, each tile is entirely handpainted. Slight variations in brushstroke, colour density and glaze movement lend authenticity and individuality, echoing the spontaneous character of historic panels.
Part of De Ferranti’s Portuguese Handpainted Tiles Collection, Um Papagaio offers a refined yet whimsical nod to Lisbon’s decorative heritage - a fragment of imagination translated for contemporary spaces.
