This unique nero e cotto border is fashioned from Pietra Nera and Yellow Leathery Terracotta over a cement base, ensuring that the border is not only stable and sound, but also easy to install. Totally handcut and hand assembled, this is a truly handmade product. No border is the same, as the artist’s hand is vital in creating natural nuances within each interlocking piece. Opus vermiculatum is a single row, or several rows, of tesserae following the outline of a feature, such as a figure or other subject, in a mosaic . Thicknesses can be 1cm or 2cm or to order, as can the border widths and material combinations. All the De Ferranti borders are fully customisable.

Nero e Cotto Border with Pietra Nera Tesserae

Vermiculatum Nero e Cotto Border has a warmer and darker character than the Bianco e Cotto version in the same design family. Small black Pietra Nera squares punctuate a field of Yellow Leathery Terracotta, creating an irregular mosaic rhythm that feels handmade, aged and quietly graphic. The black outer bands contain the composition and give the border a stronger framed edge.

This nero e cotto border is suited to projects where a floor, wall band or threshold needs warmth, texture and dark mosaic detail without a heavily ornamental pattern.
