This unique patterned terracotta quatrefoil border is inspired by tiles often seen in Medieval Churches. It is fashioned from Tufo Romanico, Yellow Terracotta and Red Terracotta over a cement base, ensuring that the border is not only stable and sound, but also easy to install. Totally handcut and hand assembled, this is a truly handmade product. No border is the same, as the artist’s hand is vital in creating natural nuances within each interlocking piece. Thicknesses can be 1cm or 2cm or to order, as can the border widths and material combinations. All the De Ferranti borders are fully customisable.

Terracotta Quatrefoil Border in Tufo Romanico

Quattrofoglie Border Terra has a softer and warmer character than the darker medieval version in the same design family. Rectangular Tufo Romanico panels alternate with terracotta square inserts, each carrying a pale four-leaf motif around a small central roundel. The result is simple, rhythmic and gently decorative, with the pale quatrefoil forms bringing clarity against the warm red terracotta ground.

This terracotta quatrefoil border is suited to projects where a floor, threshold or wall band needs warmth, craft and historic reference without a heavy or dark palette. It can be used to frame a stone or terracotta floor, define a perimeter band, outline a fireplace surround or introduce a repeated four-leaf motif into a larger interior composition, subject to final specification and installation method.
