Hyde Park Gardens – Pyrite Bathroom Suite with Pietre Dure Aquatic Cabochons
For a private client in Hyde Park Gardens, London, De Ferranti delivered a bespoke pyrite scheme using Egyptian gold (fool’s gold) pyrite as the defining material across the bathroom. Beyond the bathtub surround and top, the suite included matching his and hers vanity tops and a dramatic walk-in shower lined in pyrite brickwork, enriched with pietre dure cabochons depicting aquatic life.
The project combined architectural pyrite surfaces with intricate inlay work to create a bathroom that feels mineral, metallic and richly narrative.
nnnPyrite bathtub surround and top - fabricated as a bold, monolithic frame, allowing the stone’s natural gold flecking and dark mineral depth to glow under changing light.
nnnHis and hers pyrite vanity tops - supplied in the same material to maintain continuity and elevate daily-use surfaces with a rare, jewel-like finish.
nnnPyrite brick lining to the walk-in shower - a field of pyrite bricks creating rhythm and texture, with the metallic shimmer of fool’s gold reading like a precious architectural cladding.
nnnPietre dure cabochons in hard stones - inlaid throughout the shower, depicting aquatic creatures from blue octopi to jellyfish and sea urchins, adding moments of colour, craft and storytelling within the pyrite field.
nnnBy interspersing the cabochons through the pyrite brickwork, the shower becomes an immersive surface rather than a single feature - a kind of underwater cabinet of curiosities rendered in stone, metal and inlay. This Hyde Park Gardens project showcases De Ferranti’s ability to coordinate rare materials, bespoke fabrication and pietre dure detailing into a cohesive, high-luxury bathroom environment.
