This mother of pearl trim is formed from micro-cut shell arranged as a slim continuous band, creating a precise line of light for borders, frames and inlaid detailing. Its deliberately fine scale allows the material to sit beside stone, ceramic, timber or metal without dominating the surrounding composition. The trim can outline panels, form tramlines, define thresholds, finish edges or introduce a restrained pearlescent highlight to wall and floor schemes. It can also be specified for joinery details including cabinet fronts, tabletops, shelving, mirrors and feature inserts, with bespoke lengths and widths available to suit the project.
Micro mosaic changes the role of shell from broad surface to controlled accent. At close range, the individual pieces reveal the natural variation of Mother of Pearl; from further away, they merge into a narrow luminous line. This makes the trim useful where a larger pearl field would be visually too strong but a material transition still needs definition.
Compare Mother of Pearl Micro Mosaic – Butt-Jointed, Mother of Pearl Mini Mosaic 1cm and Shell border – Smoked Bronze Shell Mosaic (Rounded Tessera) for related approaches to shell colour, scale, pattern or surface treatment. The Shells & Mother of Pearl collection places this product within De Ferranti's wider group of shell mosaics, inlays, trims and relief surfaces.
Set out the trim with the adjoining materials before fixing. Confirm finished width, edge condition, corner returns, thresholds and the direction of any surrounding pattern. For floors or heavily handled joinery, suitability should be reviewed for the exact build-up and use. A representative sample will also show how the mother of pearl trim responds to the proposed lighting.
