Gold Lip Mother of Pearl Mosaic

This gold lip mosaic uses a luminous Mother of Pearl mosaic with naturally warm golden tones and changing nacreous pattern from piece to piece. The result is a surface that reads differently in daylight, ambient light and directional artificial light, an important consideration when specifying shell.

Gold Lip Mosaic | Surface Character and Making

Mother of Pearl is the iridescent inner shell layer and is composed primarily of calcium carbonate. This mosaic carries a thin polyurethane top coat. The live product specification lists a 4.8 x 4.8 cm pattern size. The gold lip mosaic should be read as a natural decorative surface rather than a uniform manufactured finish. Iridescence varies with the angle of view, and repeated modules can appear lighter or darker as the eye moves across them. This is one reason shell works particularly well where controlled lighting can reveal surface depth without excessive gloss.

Compare Cracklé Gold Mother of Pearl, Cream Shell – Mosaic and Yellow Crackled Mosaic With Yellow Grout for related approaches to colour, scale or pattern. The wider Shells & Mother of Pearl collection places this design beside butt-jointed grids, crackled surfaces, relief work and inlay, useful when narrowing reflectivity and pattern for a scheme.

Samples, Layout and Junctions

The existing care guidance warns against acidic substances such as vinegar, wine, champagne, lemon juice and acid-based cleaners. For larger fields, review natural colour variation and the relationship between the shell, grout and adjacent materials under project lighting. Project review should include the proposed lighting direction, adjacent finishes and the way seams meet corners, openings or joinery. Because the surface is materially active, it is sensible to approve several pieces together. Confirm the intended substrate, fixing system and care requirements rather than assuming every shell treatment behaves identically.
