The Nora monochrome terracotta tile is hand-painted in Southern Italy with very ornate floral and geometric decoration in black tones over an off-white ground. De Ferranti records the design as Sicilian in origin and 18th century in character. Four tiles form the complete repeat, creating a structured medallion-like composition with strong graphic clarity.

Although the palette is restrained, the drawing is highly detailed. Curving foliage, radial forms and darker linear accents create depth across the four-tile unit, while the off-white background preserves negative space around the ornament. The handmade terracotta body gives warmth to the monochrome scheme, and small differences between tiles prevent the repeat from appearing printed or excessively precise. This gives the surface quiet authority.
