The Lucia lavender terracotta tile is hand-painted in a Southern Italian artisan studio with complex white ornament over a softly aged lavender ground. The design is Sicilian in origin and 19th century in character, according to De Ferranti’s product record. Four tiles form the complete repeat, turning individual curves into a larger, fluid composition across the finished surface.
Lavender gives the Lucia pattern a quieter and less conventional register than black, red or green. The white decoration remains clear, but the contrast is moderated by the antiqued background and the warmth of the handmade terracotta body. Variations in brush pressure, pigment density and edge definition are natural outcomes of production by hand and contribute to the collection’s material character.
For a closely related colour direction, Leonarda Lavender and White uses lavender within a more ordered geometric repeat. Lucia Black and White shows how the same flowing design changes when placed against a much stronger ground. Elsewhere at De Ferranti, Neisha Crosland’s Frieda in Powdery Bluebell offers a small floral grid in a similarly softened palette, while Stella di Thera Rosa introduces a fresco-like ceramic surface with gentle painted variation.
It forms part of the Italianate Handpainted Tiles Collection.
The tile may be considered for decorative floors, walls, kitchens, bathrooms, fireplace surrounds, staircases, tabletops, leisure and restaurant interiors, together with warm-climate exterior settings where the specification allows. A complete sample panel is advisable because the motif cannot be judged from one tile alone. Confirm the layout, grout tone, format, thickness and installation method before ordering, particularly for connected wall and floor schemes.
