The Ignazio green terracotta tile is hand-painted in a Southern Italian artisan studio with very ornate floral and geometric decoration in green over an off-white ground. De Ferranti identifies the pattern as Sicilian in origin and 18th century in character. Four tiles complete the larger repeat, creating a formal composition rich in scrollwork, radial detail and finely drawn connecting lines.

The green pigment ranges subtly from clearer outlines to softer olive-toned passages as a natural result of hand application and firing. An off-white background keeps the complex design readable, while the terracotta biscuit gives the glazed surface a warm foundation. The complete four-tile unit should be understood as the principal motif rather than four isolated pieces.

Giovanni Blue uses similarly ornate four-tile geometry in a cooler palette, while Leonarda Green and White offers a broader aged green field with pale ornament. Elsewhere at De Ferranti, the Ottoman Tulip Vine Tile provides a useful comparison in disciplined botanical movement, and Neisha Crosland's Marigold in Bean Green introduces a more contemporary floral repeat on the same type of handmade terracotta body.

Setting Out a Four-Tile Repeat

Ignazio is suited to projects where pattern can be viewed across a sufficiently generous area, including floors, wall panels, stair landings, kitchens, bathrooms and hospitality interiors, subject to technical specification. Begin setting out from complete motif centres wherever possible, then plan borders and cuts around the established geometry. A sample panel will help determine grout width, colour balance and how the green linework responds to adjoining stone, plaster, timber or metal. Application, thickness and any warm-climate exterior use should be confirmed before ordering.
