The Gnazia handpainted terracotta tile combines red, blue, green and off-white geometric decoration applied with a sponged technique in a Southern Italian artisan studio. De Ferranti identifies the design as Neapolitan in origin, inspired by Oriental decorative sources and 19th century in character. The softened colour application gives its geometry a different surface quality from crisply outlined majolica painting.

Rather than presenting each hue as a completely flat field, sponging creates mottled density and visible tonal movement. Red, blue and green meet within an ordered pattern, while the off-white ground separates the forms and preserves clarity across repeated modules. The handmade terracotta body adds warmth at the edges and beneath the glaze.

Gnazia can bring controlled colour to kitchens, bathrooms, residential floors, walling and restaurant interiors. Its multicoloured palette works particularly well when adjoining finishes repeat only one or two of its pigments, rather than competing with the complete scheme. The sponged effect and handmade variation should be reviewed through samples and blended across the installation.
