Its tiled dados combine brilliant colour with a carefully considered hierarchy of ceramic, carved plaster and timber. This remains a valuable lesson for contemporary interiors, where an intense patterned surface benefits from deliberate height, framing and quieter adjoining materials.

Casa de Pilatos presents a later Sevillian approach, combining Mudéjar, Isabelline and Renaissance designs across fields, borders and transitions. From Sevillian tilework to Gaudí’s Park Güell

Gaudí’s Park Güell represents a distinct later chapter. Its trencadís surfaces assemble broken ceramic fragments into mosaics that follow curved benches, roofs and sculptural forms. Trencadís is not the same technique as Alhambra alicatado or hand-glazed field tile, but it demonstrates the continuing Spanish ability to integrate ceramic colour with the form and movement of a building.
