The Oliva handpainted terracotta tile combines red, blue, green and off-white geometric decoration applied in a softly sponged manner. Made in an artisan studio in Southern Italy, the design is recorded as Neapolitan in origin, influenced by Oriental pattern and associated with the 19th century. Its dispersed colour and irregular application give the repeat a lively but weathered character.

Unlike a sharply outlined painted motif, Oliva uses the sponged technique to break colour into dappled marks. The red, blue and green elements remain distinct, yet their softened edges allow the warm terracotta ground and off-white areas to participate in the composition. Across a larger installation, small differences in pigment density and placement help the surface feel assembled by hand rather than mechanically reproduced.

It may be considered for floors, walls, bathrooms, kitchens, restaurants and warm-climate exterior settings, subject to installation requirements.
