Shifting – Platinum Insert Ceramic Tiles

These platinum insert ceramic tiles create a calm, off-white ceramic field broken by gentle movement and flashes of platinum. Shifting is defined by soft, wavering lines that drift across the surface, creating an irregular grid that feels hand-drawn, architectural, and quietly graphic.

Set in a warm ivory-white, the composition is built from tiles whose edges appear to subtly bend and slide past one another, producing a sense of motion even when installed as a simple field. Fine, dark joint lines trace the layout like ink, giving the surface its linear discipline without making it feel rigid.

At intervals, platinum inserts punctuate the pattern, slim vertical flashes that catch the light and change character as you move through the space. Some read as smooth metallic bars, others as slightly textured, almost brushed panels, adding depth and a crafted imperfection that keeps the finish from feeling sterile.

The overall effect is minimal but not flat, tactile but not heavy. Ideal for walls where you want rhythm, shadow, and a controlled hint of lustre, with enough variation to feel like ceramic art rather than standard tile.

Designing with Platinum Insert Ceramic Tiles

Across a broad wall, the softly wavering edges create a restrained current through the ivory field, while the platinum elements act as points of reflected light. The composition is particularly suited to neutral schemes that need movement and detail without relying on strong colour. It may be considered alongside pale stone, timber, softly pigmented plaster or restrained metal finishes, subject to the requirements of the individual project.

Supplied by Alex Zdankowicz, Shifting sits within De Ferranti’s ceramic art collection. Its reflective detailing also relates to the metallic and pearlescent tile collection and the Avenue Road spa project, where platinum white-gold accents are used within a different surface language.

Layout, Lighting and Specification

Before quantities are finalised, confirm the panel extent, orientation, perimeter treatment and distribution of the metallic inserts. A representative sample can help assess the ivory tone, fine joint lines and the way platinum responds to the planned lighting.

Substrate stability, fixing materials, movement provision, waterproofing, swimming-pool suitability and fireplace conditions should be confirmed for the intended application. Use compatible, non-abrasive cleaning products on both the glazed ceramic and metallic elements.
