This unique patterned  archaeological mosaic border is inspired by excavations where the mosaics have just about stood the test of time. It is fashioned from Tufo Romanico, Yellow Terracotta and a combination of juxtaposed mosaic tesserae over a cement base, ensuring that the border is not only stable and sound, but also easy to install. Totally handcut and hand assembled, this is a truly handmade product.

No border is the same, as the artist’s hand is vital in creating natural nuances within each interlocking piece. Thicknesses can be 1cm or 2cm or to order, as can the border widths and material combinations. All the De Ferranti borders are fully customisable.

Archaeological Mosaic Border with Fragmented Stone Tesserae

Linea Quadratae Border has a deliberately timeworn, excavated quality. Terracotta blocks frame a central band of irregular pale stone, red cotto and darker mosaic fragments, arranged in an uneven sequence that feels closer to a recovered floor than a formal repeat. The charm of the design lies in its broken rhythm, where rectangular forms and fractured tesserae create a surface with depth, age and visual informality.

This archaeological mosaic border is suited to projects where a floor, wall or feature surface needs a sense of history, craft and material layering. It can be used to frame a stone floor, define a threshold, create a perimeter band or introduce a mosaic-led detail into a larger interior composition, subject to final specification and installation method.
